ABOUT RUBY

Ruby is a Canadian/Swiss fine art conservation student and painter based in the UK. Having achieved a first class joint honours degree in art history and social anthropology at the University of St Andrews, Ruby is currently studying towards an MA in the conservation of easel paintings at Northumbria University.

As an emerging conservator, Ruby places emphasis on the rigorous cultivation of both practical skill and theoretical knowledge, in balance with one another. Through her studies, Ruby is excited to explore how historical painting techniques can be preserved in situ and the way in which not only a painting’s subject matter but its physical make-up become evocative of time, place, and the subjective experience of each.

Within her artistic work, Ruby draws inspiration from mythology, eighteenth-century portraiture, historical paint recipes, and the natural world. She is an Active Status member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and, while she takes a special interest in painting, she also enjoys pottery, fibre art, printmaking, and continuously seeks to widen her repertoire of practical artistic skills.
