Inscription Deciphering: 

During the treatment of W. Hartley's Highland Scene (ca. 1880s), the standard course of technical photography failed to elucidate the colourman's stamp at the work's verso. The following series of photographs illustrate the course of image manipulation undertaken to try and uncover this stamp's meaning.
