Technical Photography & Imaging

Technical photography plays a vital role in the study and conservation of paintings as it reveals information that cannot always be perceived during direct visual examination. Through a range of imaging techniques, aspects of condition, provenance, and previous restoration campaigns become clear. While each technique yields distinct types of data, their combined use allows for a more holistic understanding of a painting’s material history, present condition, and long-term conservation requirements.
